Today I went back into kangaroo and looked at mesh collisions and the forms that could be generated from such manners. This ended up leading me down cloth-like materials (naturally I suppose). I found the folds and creases in the resulting meshes quite intriguing. Unfortunately, kangaroo does not allow for mesh/self collisions – a current limitation of the plugin, but nonetheless, it can still yield interesting results.
I took one of the meshes I generated into 3ds max to render it. For this render I tried to fake material texture by doing a low sample ambient occlusion render. It sort of works around the fringes of the mesh, moreso in the darker regions of the render. But I do like the shadows that resulted from it.
The noise is probably a little bit too strong in the background however, but that’s expected when doing low sample renders. Higher sample render still to come!
