A few weeks ago, a friend and I entered a competition. The main objective was to create interesting buildings out of simple geometry, and the main restriction being that you had to create a mesh with fewer than 10000 faces. We used a mesh bridging algorthithm followed by a 3D voronnoi pattern in order to create the building pictured below. Modeled in rhino + grasshopper, and rendered with 3DS Max’s Mental Ray.
For the first render, we applied a frosted glass skin to the exterior. And for the second render we made it much more transparent, and also rendered it from a lower angle.
